STARBASE Stem Program

STARBASE Stem Program

5th grade has had an incredible opportunity to go to D.O.D. StarBase for the last 5 weeks. We have been working on STEM activities that use the Indiana State Standards.  We have learned about compounds and elements and how they get their names. We experimented and learned the difference between a chemical and physical change.  We coded a 3-D robot, and we will get the miniature robot on our graduation day.  We have learned about Newton’s laws by making a harness for a raw egg to travel at high speeds in order to arrive un-harmed. (We all had ooey-gooey egg deaths!)  We had the opportunity to visit the Rolls Royce museum downtown to see Bernoulli’s principle in action. Not only did we learn about aircraft engines, we go to go back to StarBase and experiment with air and water. If you see a 5th grader ask them what they learned or what was their favorite experiment, we are all thankful for the opportunity to go.
