Good Evening IMSA North Family,

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with this week’s Principal’s corner.

On Thursday April 26th, IMSA National Honor Society is hosting a Blood Drive. Volunteers (age 16 and up) needed to help Hoosier patients in need.  Please sign-up to donate during lunch at the blood drive table and receive your student appointment card hall pass to attend the drive and RECEIVE A FREE T-SHIRT. Did you know that by donating blood you will be saving up to 3 people’s lives?

On Friday, we have an early release at 1pm, please plan accordingly.

Our school showcase will be on on May 3rd from 5pm to 7pm. The showcase will be a chance for our students to showcase their accomplishments throughout the year. Please mark your calendars.

Students who are interested in 2019 April DC trip, rising 8th and 9th graders. Please submit your deposit and release forms by last day of school. If you  need more details, please see Ms.Goyette, middle school social studies teacher.

As an 8th grader if you would like to attend college free through  21st Century scholarships program you have to sign up before the end of your 8th grade year. Please call the school if you need help in signing up.

For Kindergarten students next year, we will have Parent Open Houses between 9am-12noon on May 22nd and 24th. Please call the school for details or the brochure.

Good Evening IMSA North Family,

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with this week’s Principal’s corner.

This week is ISTEP week for grades 3rd through 8th and 10th graders. We will have hot breakfast for all students throughout the week. Please make sure your children are in attendance for the entire week. We ask that our students rest well and ready to do their best in the morning.

Our super staff of the month for March selected by staff votes is Ms.Glaub, one of our kindergarten teachers. Congratulations Ms.Glaub.

3 students, 9 staff members, including myself, and friends visited Colombia over the spring break, a sightseeing and a service trip. Thanks to Ms.Pico, our Spanish teacher for organizing the trip, it was a great success. Please see some of the pictures here.

 

Parent teacher conferences is this Thursday, April 12th, between 4pm and 7pm. All 1st through 5th grade parents should plan to see Ms.Zack in the library for AR grades. All 7th and 8th grade parents are encouraged to attend 21st Century grant presentations to make sure our students attend college free after high school.

The second round of ISTEP testing will start next week.

Good Evening IMSA North Family,

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with this week’s Principal’s corner.

Our Elementary robotics did a superb job and qualified for the World Championship in Kentucky at the end of April. This is a first for us. Kudos to the team members from 5th grade: Justice Coleman, Lyam Benedict, Jalen Bonds, Tonny Beltran and their coach Mr.Turan. We wish them the best luck in the world finals.

Yesterday our school hosted the annual Concept Schools math competition MathCon. Our students and around 300 other students took a math test and also competed at the Game 24 competition. Please check the website for pictures.

This Friday is the last day before Spring break and we release at 1pm. All 1st period classes that completed 100% re-enrollment by March 2nd will be receiving their ice-cream this Friday, that is all K-6 classrooms and several other first periods. Friday it is also a dress down day for $2. The raised funds will support our robotics team World Championship event.

The Purdue University Cybersecurity Camp is the only residential GenCyber student program in the state of Indiana and the surrounding Midwestern states created for girls entering 9th – 12th grades. It is a free camp. Please check our website for details under College/Summer Camps.

About 25 of our high school students participated in the Nationwide walkout on Wednesday. As a school we believe we have a responsibility to help our students become leaders. We are looking for ways to connect our students to the broader community, build learning opportunities from students’ passions, weave current events into classes beyond social studies and facilitate student input and leadership. Help us do this together.

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with this week’s
Principal’s corner.

Concept Schools Spoken Word Contest was held last Saturday in Downtown library. Students who represented our school  were : Ayatallah Palmer, Kaleisha Williams, LaTavia Rivers, and Cameron Rowell. While we didn’t get a trophy this year, all of the performances were very inspiring, great job guys.

Our Elementary and Middle school VEX IQ Robotics teams competed at the state finals at Lucas Oil Stadium yesterday. They competed against the best teams and represented our school well. We will find out if any of the teams make to the World Finals, kudos to both teams.

This upcoming Saturday our school is hosting annual Concept Schools Math Competition, Mathcon. We have 14 students competing from middle and high school, we wish them the best luck.

Congratulations to our students of the month for February, these students and their parents will have lunch with me tomorrow at Super China Buffet.

Jordan Rodriguez, Director of International and Latino Affairs from Mayor’s Office will be talking to our seniors on Tuesday.

On April 12th during parent teacher conferences, we will have a presentation about 21st Century scholarships. All 7th and 8th grade parents are encouraged to attend. With this scholarship, your child may go to college free.

IMSA North – Principal’s Announcements
Good Evening IMSA North Family,

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with this week’s Principal’s corner.

ISTEP testing went really well this year, our students did their best and we are continuing to increase the rigor in the classroom to prepare our students for their future.

Our attendance rate this week was around 96%. I would like us to keep that attendance rate for the remaining of the school year, please let’s work together to make that happen.

94% of the re-enrollment forms have been turned in, more than 84% of the students enrolled for next year. Thank you for trusting us.

Free summer camps on science and technology for students entering 5th,6th and 7th grade. Please check the school website under college/summer camps for details and other summer programs as well.

Our elementary and middle school VEX IQ teams have advanced to the state finals and the state finals will be this upcoming Saturday at the Lucas Oil stadium, home of the Colts. Good luck to both of our teams.

Our High school FTC team also competed at the state finals and came 5th out of the 32 teams. Kudos to another great season.

80% of the re-enrollment forms have been turned in, thanks to all of those parents. Among the students who also paid the $25 consumable fee we have the third winner of ATT Tablet. The winner is Daniela Tepas from 10th grade. She will get her tablet tomorrow.

60% of the re-enrollment forms have been turned in, thanks to all of those parents. Among the students who also paid the $25 consumable fee we have a winner of ATT Tablet. The winner is Eliese Dodson from 3rd grade. She will get her tablet tomorrow.

First phase of ISTEP tests will start on Wednesday, February 21st and continue for the next two weeks. Please make sure your students are at the school during testing days. IMSA North – Principal’s Announcements
Good Evening IMSA North Family,

 

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with this week’s Principal’s corner.

PTO will be selling candy grams for 50 cents starting this week as a PTO fundraiser.

Our re-enrollment for next year has started. Every student needs to bring a signed re-enrollment form to guarantee their spot for 2018-2019 school year. 222 students, around 40% of the students turned in their re-enrollment forms, more than 90% re-enrolled for next year. Thank you for your support and we are looking forward to the rest of the forms. Our first raffle is this Friday for a tablet among the students who also paid their $25 consumable material fee.

Our parent teacher conferences for all grades K-12 is this upcoming Saturday between 9am to 1pm. We will also have senior class bake sale during the conferences.

Our re-enrollment for next year has started. Every student needs to bring a signed re-enrollment form to guarantee their spot for 2018-2019 school year.

If students bring the signed re-enrollment form form and also pay their $25 consumable material fee for first semester they are eligible for these raffles :

National School Choice Week is this week. Thank you for choosing our school and your continued support. Our re-enrollment for 2018-2019 school year will also start next week. Please be on the lookout for the re-enrollment forms.

IMSA North – Principal’s Announcements
Good Evening IMSA North Family,

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with today’s announcements on Monday instead of Sunday.

I hope everyone had a great extended weekend and I hope to see everyone tomorrow, Tuesday at the school.

Our 3D Printer Family workshop is on February 10th Saturday, the same day we have conferences. The school has two free kits valued at $250 and it will be given to two of the families who show interest by February 1st. You have the build the printer with the instructor on February 10th and it will take around 8 hours to build it, then you will take the printer home.

Our STEM night will be between 4pm to 6pm on February 8th for all grades.

Our emergency evacuation site Northside Baptist Church. I hope we never need to use their site but if we ever need to evacuate our building for any reason, Northside Baptist Church is where we will dismiss students from.

IMSA North – Principal’s Announcements
Good Evening IMSA North Family,

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with today’s announcements, the first one in 2018.

Our high school robotics team, KnightBots, attended their second tournament of the season yesterday in Crawfordsville, IN. They had a great time with playing against 32 teams from 4 midwest states. They ranked second out of thirty-two teams and won Finalist Captain Award. Their next event will be held on January 27th in Bedford, IN. Keep up the good work.

If our school closes because of weather, you will receive a phone call and an email. If you are receiving this call, then you will also receive the school closing call as well. The announcement will also be made through  Channel 6, 8, 13 and Fo 59.

I hope everyone had a great winter break and the first day back for students is Tuesday.

Good Evening IMSA North Family,


This is Onder Secen, the Principal with today’s announcements.

Our Middle school girls basketball team did it again and won their 3rd consecutive ICSAA championship on December 12th with a score of 37-25.  They avenged their only two losses of the year by beating Visions Academy and Andrew J. Brown on their way to the title.  They were also and they were also recognized at the Pacers game on December 15th. Congratulations lady Knights.

Good Evening IMSA North Family,


This is Onder Secen, the Principal with today’s announcements.

Congratulations to the students of the month for November/December. We will have lunch with these students and their parents this Tuesday at 11am at the Super China Buffet.

Our super staff of the month for November/December  is Ms.Bireley, Assistant Principal of Academics for grades K-2 and 9-12. Congratulations Ms.Bireley for being chosen by the staff.

Our high school FTC Robotics team KnightBots attended the first tournament of the season yesterday in Greenwood, IN. They’ve ranked third out of thirty-two Indiana teams. Their next event will be held on January 6th in Crawfordsville IN, please check the pictures on the website.

Thanks to our PTO for organizing Breakfast with Santa yesterday, thanks to everyone who organized as well as attended the event.

IMSA North – Principal’s Announcements
Good Evening IMSA North Family,


This is Onder Secen, the Principal with today’s announcements.

National Honor Society is hosting a blood drive tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at IMSA North. IMSA families and friends are encouraged to donate by stopping by the Blood Mobile that will be parked outside of the school. With a donation you can impact 3 people’s lives and RECEIVE A FREE T-SHIRT  for helping. It only takes 45 minutes to help save a life!”

Students that are 16 or 17 will need to bring signed permission slips in and give to staff prior to donating.  Those planning to donate please drink plenty of water and eat something prior to donating blood. Walk-ins are welcome throughout the day as we may spots become available throughout the day.

Technology Student Association is having Bingo Night again! Join us this Thursday, December 14th from 6-8pm and you could win our Grand Prize of New Year’s Eve Colts Tickets! Bingo cards are $1.00 a card or 6 for $5.00. Every card you purchase is an entry into the Grand Prize, win or lose. There will be hot dogs, snacks and drinks available for purchase at the event. We hope to see you there!

Parent Writing Contest…

Good Evening IMSA North Family,

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with this week’s Principal’s corner.

On Friday we had our in school science fair and we had around 300 projects presented. Thanks to all of our students and the science teachers who made it happen. We are looking forward to the chosen projects to compete at the next level science fairs.

Yesterday, Saturday, our elementary robotics team received the “Robot Skills Champion Award (VIQC)” award at the VEX IQ tournament. Kudos to Mr.Turan and the elementary students from 5th grade: Justice, Lyam, Jalen and Tonny

Around 20 staff members and students are going to Colombia this Spring Break. Part of the trip is taking donated items to the people in need. If you would like to contribute new or gently used items, please send them to Ms.Pico. Items are School supplies, hygiene items, medical supplies, summer clothes, electronics, sporting equipment, didactic materials and toys.

Lastly we have two high school boys basketball games coming up this Friday and Saturday. This will be our homecoming game and we will be playing against the best teams in the division. Doors open at 5:30pm. There will be a raffle both nights. Wear blue and orange to support the team colors.

Mobile dentist will be at our school tomorrow.

Thursday, November 30th, we will have our PTO meeting between 6pm-7pm.

On Friday we will have our in school science fair during school hours and we need judges to judge the projects throughout the day. Please email Ms.Bargy @ bargy@imsaindy.org if you are interested in judging.

On Friday we will have early release at 1pm. Please remember to pick up your children two hours earlier than normal times from the school and the bus stop.

Good Evening IMSA North Family,


This is Onder Secen, the Principal with this week’s Principal’s corner.

 

The senior class community service project is a winter drive to benefit the Wheeler Mission. Send toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and lotion in a ziplock bag until December.19th.

Congratulations to the students of the month for October. We will have lunch with these students and their parents this Tuesday at 11am at the Super China Buffet.

 
Our super staff of the month for October is Mr.Knox, Assistant Principal of School Culture for grades 3-8.

Our middle school VEX Robotics team placed first in the first regional competition they competed this year. Our elementary team also placed second overall. Kudos to Mr.Yunus and Mr.Turan as their coaches and the students who worked hard to accomplish this. Check for some pictures.

IMSA North won the Concept Spelling Bee that took place yesterday in Chicago. Victory Sampson came first and Eric Mwasinga placed in the top 5. Kudos to the students and Ms.Bell and Ms.Lawson wor working and traveling with the students. Check for some pictures.

International festival was an instant classic. It was lead by students and presented to entire student body and parents to enjoy. Kudos to all the students and staff. In particular Ms.Pico, Mr.Pico, Ms.Adlig worked hard to organize the event with students. Check for some pictures.

This is our last week before Thanksgiving break. There will not be any school next week. Please make sure your students attend the school everyday this week. We are working hard with some of our families to avoid filing truancy charges with the state.

National Honor Society is holding a canned food drive is starting on Monday.

Oral Health educator will be here on Monday, Nov. 6th, to visit with grades K-5 students.
Parent teacher conferences is this Thursday, November 9th between 4pm-7pm. Also there will be a presentation for 7th and 8th grade parents about 21st Century Scholar Program.
Our International Fair will be on Friday. Please bring foods and ethnic items to share. Check with Ms.Pico for questions.

Write an essay as a parent and join the parent writing contest. Two of our parents received monetary awards last year.

We had 170 students, parents and staff members show up to the Trunk or Treat, Bingo Night and 15 parents came to our PTO meeting. Check our twitter feed for pictures. Students whose parents came to the PTO meeting can dress down tomorrow, Monday.

Good Evening IMSA North Family,

If you haven’t turned in your Mobile Dentist forms please do so as soon as possible.
Last day to put items in Lay-a-Way  at School Zone is Saturday, November 11th. All Lay-a-ways must be picked up by Friday, December 22, 2017.

The Marion County Health Department will be conducting Vision and Hearing Screening this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at our school for grades: 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10. Please make sure your students don’t miss the opportunity to get checked out.

 

Saturday, October 28th we have three events between 4:30pm-7:30pm. We have Trunk and Treat, Bingo Night and October PTO Meeting. Again on Saturday October 28th between 4:30pm-7:30pm.

IMSA North – Principal’s Announcement

Good Evening IMSA North Family,

First quarter was over last Friday. Report cards will be mailed out this week.

There is no afterschool tutoring on Wednesday.

Middle school girls basketball tryouts scheduled for Monday has been moved to Wednesday, no try outs on Monday.  

Dental forms will be sent out with students on Monday and they are due no later than Friday, October 13th.

Vision and hearing screenings are this Friday.

Monday, October 16th is the last day to turn on Textbook fee forms. If you would like to know if you owe any fees or have turned in textbook fee waiver application forms, please login to Concept Schools Student Information System and click on fees.

Free tutoring or mentoring? IUPUI is offering it free. Please check this link or the school website.

October 26th, Thursday it will be our second BINGO night and PTO meeting. First one was a success. Our new PTO officers will be selected in October meeting.

Yesterday we participated in the Ovarian Cancer Walk. We had close to 40 people joined Ms.Bell’s group to support her.

Thursday, September 28th we will have a BINGO night between 6pm-8pm. There will be a PTO meeting between 6:30pm-7:30pm as well. I will be presenting an update about our School Improvement Grant and I would love to hear from our parents during the PTO meeting. Please come and join us, check the website for details.

Our high school robotics team learned their mission on Saturday, we wish them the best success this season.

Indiana Black Expo is excited to announce the registration open for the 2017 Circle City Classic® Education Day Party. The Education Day will be on Saturday September 23rd in Lucas Oil Stadium.  Education Day Party is open to all middle school, high school students. The fair provides attendees with admissions and financial aid information as well as the opportunity to meet university representatives in person.  Additionally, students will have the opportunity to connect with educational service providers to learn more about scholarships, financial aid and testing requirements necessary for admittance. The Black Expo costs $10 however if you commit to attend the Education Day, the school will give you a free admission ticket. To get your free ticket, sign up with your homeroom teacher by Friday, September 15th.

IMSA North – Principal’s Announcement

Our students had a great time during Solar Eclipse and we raised around $500 for our robotics team, please see the website for pictures and videos.

IMSA North – Principal’s Announcement


Good Evening IMSA North Family,

This is Onder Secen, the Principal with this week’s Principal’s corner.

Tutoring is starting this week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays between 3:10pm-3:45pm. Students who are not picked up  by 3:50pm will be escorted to the aftercare. Students who are regularly picked up after 3:50pm may be charged a fee.

 

To access to your child’s academics, attendance and all other data please login to our Concept Schools Student Information System. All the students will receive their username/passwords on Monday, please ask your child to show you the slip. None of the passwords have changed from last year.

The revised bus routes are available on the website.

Are you interested in going to Colombia during Spring break with staff, students and parents? It is only $1300.  Please check the website for details.

We welcome our parents to volunteer and visit our classrooms. Please see the guidelines on our website.

The solar eclipse is tomorrow. If you child is participating in the viewing, please talk to them about looking at the eclipse with only the glasses. Permission slip is on the website or here.

Attention Sophomores & Juniors ! The PSAT will be given to the interested 10th and 11th grade students on Wednesday, October 11th, beginning at 8:00am until noon. The PSAT is a practice test that prepares students for success on the SAT which is a commonly required college placement test. Registration is due by August 21st!  See Mrs. Elif to sign up or for more details.
